His grandparents Jakob and Eveline are buried in the Newhaus Hebrew Cemetery. He received his education in Vienna. He was a pianist, a conductor and a chorus master. He had a long career with the New York Metropolitan Opera from 1943 to 1973. He spoke many languages and conducted all over the world. He first married Irene W. McNutt AKA Irene Hawthorn (her stage name) on 10 Mar 1948. She was a prima ballerina with the New York Metropolitan Opera. He married second to Christiane Tocco on 16 Sep 1965 and had 2 lovely children. He died in New Jersey and was cremated.
