The son of Theodore & Catherine (Hopple) Meminger, in 1860 he was a laborer living in Spruce Hill Township, Juniata County, Pennsylvania. He stood 5' 9" tall and had black hair and black eyes.

A Civil War veteran, he enlisted and mustered into federal service at Harrisburg September 8, 1864, as a private with Co. C, 208th Pennsylvania Infantry, and honorably discharged with his company June 1, 1865.

He married Catherine C. Kingsborough in 1870 and fathered Cambridge C. (b. 05/30/70). Cause of death is listed as a combination of "arteriosclerosis, aortic regurgitation, [and] chronic interstitial nephritis."



John served as a private in the 208th Regiment, Pennsylvania Volunteer Infantry, Company C (Civil War).
