Thomas Joseph Baker, "Captain Tom", passed away at his home in Nesbit, MS, March 17, 2020 from a possible heart attack, but friends say he had been ill for a couple of weeks. He had stated he had been ill and may have either cancer or Coronavirus. Tom attended Kingsbury High School in East Memphis and Westside High School in the Frayser neighborhood on the northside of Memphis, TN from 1968-1969. He worked at The Commercial Appeal from 1998 - 2004.
Tom had studied radio broadcasting at Memphis State University. His passion was showcasing Memphis music. Tom was on 4 different stations in the past and was looking for a place to showcase this great talent once more after retirement. Memphis Melting Pot was one of his radio shows on the Memphis State station. "Captain Tom", (as a kid he called himself Satch), God speed, grab your turntable and play us some heavenly Rock & Roll tunes.
