Ray E. Lane, 74, Neosho, died at 5:20 p.m., Monday, Aug. 6, 2007, at his home, following a three year illness.

He was born Feb. 21, 1933, in Neosho to Fred and Wrethal (Churchwell) Lane.

After graduating from Neosho High School in 1951, Ray attended the Springfield Beauty Academy before going to New York to attend the M. Lewis Beauty College. He served in the United States Navy from 1953 to 1955, serving on the U.S.S. Hunt.

He worked for Macy's for two years prior to opening Ray's Beauty Shop in Joplin, which he operated for 48 years, retiring in 2005. He was a Christian and a member of the American Legion.

Ray is survived by his wife, Lola (Hodges), of the home; four children, Mark (Lesa) Lane, Diamond, Jeanna Blauert and Richard Lane, Neosho, and Kelly (Jerry) Johnson, Joplin; five grandchildren, Jeff Blauert, Lindsay Blauert, Richard Lane, Jr. and wife, Ashley, Jessica Lane and Nicholas Lane; four step-grandchildren, Tony Goddard, Casey Kelley, Katie Kelley and Annie Kelley; and one great-granddaughter, Courtney Lane.

He was preceded in death to his parents, a brother, Jerry Lane, and a grandson, Michael Sean Lane.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Friday at Clark Chapel of Memories, with Rev. James Schnackenberg officiating. Burial will follow at IOOF Cemetery, Neosho, with full military honors.

Friends may call at the funeral home from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. Thursday, where the family will receive friends from 6 to 7 p.m.

Arrangements are under the direction of Clark Funeral Home, Neosho.
