Mrs. LUCILLE (CAMPBELL GREENE) RANDOLPH was the daughter of William Campbell and Mrs. Josephine Campbell.

"Funeral services for Mrs. Lucille Greene Randolph, 79, wife of A. Philip Randolph, president of the Brotherhoold of Sleeping Car Porters, will be held at noon tomorrow at St. Philip's Episcopal Church. 215 W. 133d Street, NY. Mrs. Randolph died Friday at her home, 2588 Seventh Avenue, NY."


Biography

She began her education at Howard University. She married Joseph Greene shortly after graduation and moving with him to New York City. He worked as a customs officers, and she worked as a teacher. Shortly after their arrival, Joseph passed away. In 1913, she changed her career, and thereafter, she was one of the first and the most successful women to graduate from Lelia Beauty College, which was founded by Madame C.J. Walker, in New York. After graduating, she opened her own salon in New York where she attracted an elite clientele. She married Asa Phillip Randolph in November 1914 in a ceremony at Saint Phillip's Episcopal Church, in Harlem. Her business venture helped her husband, Asa Philip Randolph, immensely with his activist projects including the funding of the black magazine 'The Messenger', which her husband co-founded. Mrs. Lucille Campbell Greene (Randolph) died on April 12, 1963, four months before her husband participated in the march on Washington D.C., which was considered his most significant achievement. She is most likely laid to rest with her husband at the headquarters of the Asa Philip Randolph Institute in Washington, D.C.
