Dr. John R. Cicero, DPM, Surgeon passed away suddenly on March 8, 2020 in his sleep.

John is survived by his loving wife Pamela (Giovannucci), daughter, Kimberly, son, Johnny, mother Sandra (nee Fox), brother, Matthew (Christiane), sister, Maria Cicero, niece, Alie, nephew, Roman, mother-in-law Lillian, cousins and many dear friends, adoring patients and associates and his faithful canine companion, Kenneth Frey Cicero.

John is predeceased by his father, Dr. John V. Cicero, DPM and father-in-law, Ralph Giovannucci.

Dr. Cicero, a highly-regarded Surgeon Podiatrist, was a "patient's" and "doctors") doctor with bedside manner to spare, practicing at his Bloomfield, Brookdale, Essex County, NJ office since 1985. John was a 1979 graduate of Upsala College in the City of East Orange, received his DPM from the Pennsylvania College of Podiatry Medicine in 1984, now known as Temple University, and followed with a podiatric surgical residency at West Essex General Hospital in Livingston, Essex County, NJ.

Since his entrance into medicine for the foot, ankle and leg, Dr. Cicero has amassed an impressive list of certifications, speaking engagements, teaching assignments and honors, most recently as the recipient of the Kerecis 2020 Aurora Award, which is the culmination of an international wound care case study competition.

He was scheduled to present his unique approach to the utilization of the Kerecis Omega3 Wound product as an implanted spacer in joint surgery at Reykjavik, Iceland later this month. At this event, he was scheduled to receive an award from the President of Iceland.

Other distinctions include being the first surgeon to perform an endoscopic plantar fasciotomy and one of the few to utilize the Ilizarov bone-callus distraction technique for growing bone at Hackensack UMC - Mountainside Hospital in Montclair,/Glen Ridge, Essex County, NJ where he was an active member of the surgical staff. During Dr. Cicero's long tenure he served as both Chief and Chairman of Podiatry as well as demonstrating particular expertise in the Wound Care Center (he was one of the founding panelists) and Hyperbaric Oxygen. His exemplary services and convivial temperament will be greatly missed.

John was an internationally recognized Surgeon Podiatrist, who practiced in Brookdale Station, Bloomfield. He was a member of the American Board of Foot and Ankle Surgery, a member of the American Professional Wound Care Association, and a Fellow of The American College of Foot and Ankle Surgeons. He was an active member of the Rotary Club of Bloomfield, NJ and its past president serving multiple terms, he was a figure in the local community for decades.

His personal interests spanned from painting, sculpture, and drawing (he contributed clinical illustrations to professional publications) to the digital arts of video editing, special effects and animation. He was also a classic film aficionado. By far, his favorite pastime was creating and editing home videos of his children's experiences on their many trips and adventures. He loved being in his favorite place, LBI, with his wife, children, Kenny and out on his boat.

Please respect the family’s wishes and do not send flowers or plants. In lieu of, please consider making a donation to Kimberly and Johnny’s education funds.
