Steven Donald "Wiener" Millette, age 63, of Fosston, MN, passed away on Sunday, March 7th, at Pioneer Memorial Care Center in Erskine. He was born on August 11, 1956 in Red Lake County, Minnesota.
His mother, Kathleen, was so important to Steve throughout his life. Kathleen and Steve were so blessed when Ted came into their family. He was a kind and loving father to Steve. He grew up in Columbia Heights, Minnesota and graduated from high school. After high school, he enlisted in the U.S. Air Force and received his honorable discharge. Steve was always involved with Veteran's Affairs programs. Steve has a tatoo to remember those who were POW's, and he also had an eagle on his arm that symbolized freedom.
"Wiener" was known for being wild and free. His dog, Lewis, a beautiful German Shepherd, rode with him on his motorcycle. He was certainly known for his mechanic work on cars, tractors, motorcycles, and boats. He also worked as a pipefitter. Early on in his adult life he came to northwestern Minnesota to be by his uncle, John Loiland and his wife, Linda, and their children, Shannon and Gary. Many good times remembered were cutting wood with John and his kids; he would also bring them salted nut candy bars.
He enjoyed life with his good buddies. Wrenching on cars and sleds; an avid fan of demo derbies, ice racing and riding sleds and snowmobile races. His solitude was given to him by spending time at area lakes, especially Cold Spring, where his mother Kathleen and Ted lived. After Kathleen passed there were moments where Ted and Wiener enjoyed the tranquility of the lake, reminiscing.
His other solitude was when he was on the tractor. He worked for local farmers and found himself appreciating the land and realizing there was natural beauty anywhere if one looks hard enough.
His very good friend, Dorothy Brown, was like his second mother. He would call her every morning and each evening.
He was preceded in death by his grandmother, Thora; mother, Kathleen; and his uncles, Nels and John Loiland.
Weiner is survived by his dad, Ted; aunt, Carol (Nels) Loiland; aunt, Linda Loiland, and her children Shannon and Gary; and numerous friends in the local communities.
Interment will be in Borgholm Cemetery, Mille Lacs County, at a later date.
