Everson J. Clark, 69, of 823 Calvert St., former Rome police sergeant, died Thursday in Syracuse Veterans Administration Hospital after an illness of several weeks.

He was born January 1, 1894, in Parish, son of Fred W. and Emma Everson Clark, and had resided in Camden and Utica before moving to Rome in 1917.

On August 31, 1922, he married the former Lulu Thompson in the parsonage of the First Baptist Church, Rome, with the Rev. Ivan Rose officiating.

Mr. Clark was appointed to the Police Department on January 8, 1925, reporting for duty on January 16.

He was appointed sergeant on October 5, 1933, after eight years as a patrolman, half of which were spent with the motorcycle unit. For seven years prior to returning to regular duties in June of 1950, he was on charge of maintenance of street markers for the Police Dept.

Mr. Clark joined the Griffiss AFB guard force after his retirement in 1951.

He served two years with the Navy during World War I.

Mr. Clark was a member of the First Baptist Church. He was a member of Rome Post, Veterans of Foreign Wars and the Philip S. McDonald Police Benevolent Assn., and had served as committeeman for the Boy Scouts at First Baptist Church. He was a former member of Henry P. Smith Post, American Legion.

Surviving besides his wife, are three daughters, Mrs. George W. (Doris) Smith and Mrs. William J. (Lois) Salisbury, Rome, and Mrs. Clarence J. (Norma) Parry, Cato, two sons, Richard M. at home, and John E. Clark, San Diego, Calif., three sisters, Mrs. Stanely O. Carrier, Lake Delta, Mrs. Albert Hughes, Rome and Mrs. Harold Hickey, Hamilton, two brothers, Fred L. Clark, Syracuse, and Herbert L. Clark Jr., Rome, and 11 grandchildren.
