Vernon Wright Abney, Sr., age 82, of Campbellsburg, Kentucky, passed away on Sunday, January 30, 2022 at Baptist Hospital East in Louisville, Kentucky. Born January 23, 1940 in Jericho, Kentucky, he was the son of Vernon C. and Viginia M. (Farmer) Abney.

Mr. Abney served his country in the United States Army February 1, 1957 to January 29, 1958. He retired in 1998 after thirty years of service as a machine operator for American Standard. A member of Providence Baptist Church, he served as a deacon there for forty years. He also enjoyed golfing, fishing and visiting people and became known as a "social butterfly."

Survivors include one daughter: Amy Johnson and her husband, Rob of Campbellsburg; two sons: Chuck and his wife, Bonita of Madison, Indiana, and Neil Abney of Campbellsburg; one brother and sister-in-law, Rodney and Becci Abney of Machesney Park, Illinois; nine grandchildren; and eleven great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, the former Barbara Chilton on November 10, 2019 and to whom he was married in 1961 at Campbellsburg Christian Church; two brothers: Lyle Abney and Steve Abney; and one sister, Joyce Gillespie.

The Reverend Dr. Mike Huff will conduct the funeral services, with military honors to follow.
