Margie was born in Newark, Texas to Robert Moreland and Lyddia Jane Oldham Moreland. Margie was a graduate of Sam Houston High School and a member of the Black Battalion Drill Team. She also graduated from Lon Morris Jr. College and the University of Houston. Margie worked for Humble Independent School district and later was the third hire of the Harris County Appraisal District, retiring in 1997 after 17 years.
Margie loved traveling and visiting with her grandchildren. She enjoyed making handmade blankets and quilts for friends. She and her husband Mickey celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary on July 21, 2007.
