Marshall R. Diggs was an alumnus of Epworth University (today Oklahoma City University) and Yale Law School. He moved to Washington, DC in 1934 when he was appointed executive assistant comptroller in the Treasury Department. In 1938 he was acting controller, a position he held for ten months. In 1939 he partnered in a law practice in Washington until he retired. He maintained his residence in Washington but had a summer home in West Springfield, NH.

He was a member of the American Bar Association, the Yale Clubs of New York City and Washington, the Metropolitan Club, the Burning Tree Country Club, and the Metropolitan Memorial Methodist Church.

He was survived by his wife, the former Alice Muse of Atlanta; two daughters, Mrs. Frank W. Quiggin of Orinda, CA, and Mrs. Charles K. Knulsen, Jr., of Carlisle, PA; a son, Marshall R. Jr., of Denver, CO; and six grandchildren.
