JOSEPH ROBERT SCHMIDT of Rockledge, FL died at home - he was the son of Robert and Mary Schmidt. Joe was a U.S. Marine Corps veteran and began his career as a Florida Highway Patrolman in Miami, FL in 1981 starting as a Trooper and rose through the ranks to his last appointment, which brought him to Brevard County as District Commander. During Joe's tenure with FHP, he received an esteemed appointment to the 247th session of the FBI National Academy in Quantico, VA. While in Brevard, Joe earned a Master's Degree from UCF and was an assistant Scoutmaster for Troop 321 where his son, Matthew, earned the rank of Eagle Scout. Joe also enjoyed hunting, fishing, movies, and motorcycle riding with friends.Preceded in death by his father, Robert Schmidt, surviving are his wife, Lisa; children, Matthew and Kathryn; mother, Mary Schmidt and siblings, Danny (Nancy) Schmidt, Janet (Mark) Rizk, Mark (Lynn) Schmidt. A Funeral Mass will be held January 4, 2020 at St. Mary Catholic Church in Rockledge, FL. Florida Memorial Funeral Home in Rockledge, FL is serving the family.
