West Columbia-Funeral Service for John Russell Defee, 84, will be conducted 1:30 p.m. Friday at Ebenezer Pentecostal Holiness Church with the Rev. Gene Henderson officiating. Burial follow at Southland Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends from 12:30 pm to 1:30pm at the church prior to the service. Memorials may be made to Ebenezer Pentecostal Holiness Church.
Born in Florence, he was the son of the late Samuel and Mary Lee Carpenter Defee. He fulfilled "Living life to the fullest" here on this earth and has now received the greatest gift to all "Eternal Life." Among the best football players in High School, he enjoyed baseball and gardening. Being committed Christian; he loved his Ebenezer Church family and Pastor. Mr. Defee finished his ministry of encouraging others with a cheerful greeting and laughter. After graduating from Timmonsville High School he proudly served our country in the US Army and National Guard with a tour in France. In 2018, Russell decided to retire from his truck driving career of many years, most recent with Penske Trucking.
Surviving are his wife, Sophia Street Defee; he was a proud father of Keith (Mary), Todd (Terry), Kristal; step daughter, Julie; sister, Linda Smith; brother, Henry Defee; loved his 7 grandchildren; 2 step grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren. He has now joined a host of family and friends in Heaven, including Louise; the mother and their children.
