Service Held for Carl G. Heiner
Funeral services were held Tuesday, July 11 at 1 p.m. in the Bedford Ward Chapel under the direction of the Bedford Ward Bishopric for Carl G. Heiner 60, longtime Bedford resident farmer-rancher, who died July 8 of cancer. Burial was in the Bedford Cemetery.
Carl G. Heiner was born Aug 16, 1901 at Bedford. He waas the third child and second son born to Charles G and Barbara Harrer Heiner.
He was raised on the farm where Joseph Heiner now lives and received his schooling at the Bedford School. He completed the eighth grade after which he stayed at home to help his parents on the farm.
He always liked farming. He received great satisfaction in a clean, well ordered farm and yard. He loved flowers and also had a love for the animals on the farm. He had a special spot in his heart for sheep and especially for fine well bred and well kept horses. He retained this love until the tome of his death having purchased a colt to be broken to ride just last fall.
He met Frances Lottie Schwab and made his courting trips to Afton on a horse named "old Bill". They were married in the Salt Lake Temple on June 4, 1925. To this union were born four sons one of which died in infancy. All of his surviving sons were married in the temple and they shared the same wedding date as their parents, the date being June 4. It was always a thrill and a joy to him to meet with his sons and their families on that day.
He was not an active man in public affairs, but could always be depended upon to help with church projects and in aiding a neighbor when help was needed. He served as an adult Aaronic Priesthood advisor and as a ward teacher for many years.
He always had a desire to spend as many hours as possible in the outdoors with mother nature. His idea of spending a perfect day was to take his horse and go exploring the mountains surrounding the valley in which his home was built.
One amusing incident happened about a month ago, shortly after he returned from the hospital. He took his car, picked up Sterling nelson to go squirrel hunting with him. They went down where the East Side Canal Headgate takes water from Salt River. He parked the car, forgetting to set the brake. They left the car and began hunting. shortly after, they noticed the car coming down the embankment toward the river. They were unable to reach it in time and it coasted into the river. It floated across the stream and sank. As ill as he was even then, he saw the humor of the situation and smiled for weeks about it.
Eight years ago, he turned ranching over to his sons, and began acting as a guide for out of state hunters. The past two years were spent on the Circle S Ranch at Cora, Wyo. There he met and made friends form all over the world. The owners of this ranch advised the people whom he guided for of his illness and letters from all over the United states were received the past few weeks.
He is survived by his widow Frances, three sons, Ralph, Lloyd and Carl S; three brothers Robert, Joseph and Theodore; and by 10 grandchildren all of whom reside in Bedford.
He always gave wise counsel to his family and they all tried to heed it whenever possible. He will be greatly missed by all those who gained wisdom from his advice.
Those from out of the valley who called and were in attendance at the funeral services held July 11, were: Mrs Albert Steffen, Morrilton, Ark; Mr and Mrs Josh Schwab, Mrs Leona Metcalf; Mrs Nettie Mullener; Mr and Mrs Martin Schwab, Mr and Mrs Junior Heiner; all of Salt Lake City, Utah, Matilda Schoenfeld, Ida Miller, Mr and Mrs. Henry Schwab, Mr and Mrs Carl Schramm, Elsie Schramm and Hattie Schramm of Payson, Utah; Mr and Mrs. Dean Wilkinson, Pleasant Grove, Utah; Mr and Mrs Harold Longhurst and children Sandra and Gary, Shelley Idaho; Mr and Mrs Scott Schwab, Mr and Mrs. Dean Gardner and daughter Wynlee Sue, Logan, Utah; Mr and Mrs William Boothe, Kaysville, Utah; and Mr and Mrs Reedd wilding, Sugar City, Idaho; Mr and Mrs W.M.
