David Woods was a convicted murderer on Death Row. On April 7th, 1984, 23 years prior, David Woods and two friends, Greg Sloan and Pat Sweet, went to the home of Juan Placencia in Garrett, Indiana, to steal a television. Woods was armed with a knife. While Sweet stayed out in the yard, Woods and Sloan rang the doorbell. When Juan answered the door, Woods barged in, stabbing him with the knife. When the elderly Juan fell and called out for help, Woods stabbed him repeatedly and took money from his wallet. Woods and Sloan carried out the Television, hiding it, eventually selling it. They washed their clothes and threw the knife in the creek. The next day, Woods called Police, pretending he had just found the body, he was on the porch of the apartment complex crying and saying he had gone there to use the phone and found the body. While questioning Woods, his mother showed up, and she told police she thought he was involved in the murder. She consented to a search of her residence. The search revealed a knife sheath and a stained towel. Woods was taken to the station, preparing for a polygraph test, when he broke down and confessed to killing and Robbing Juan Placencia, who was 77 at time of his death. Sloan testified at his trial, entering a guilty plea to aiding in the murder. David Woods last meal was the day before, he had Birthday Cake and Pizza with family. The day of his execution he was placed on a liquid diet. His final statement was: "I want Juan's family to know I truly am sorry, and I do have remorse. I want everybody to know that I do have Peace, and it's through Jesus Christ that I have this Peace." David Woods died by lethal injection, at the age of 42.
