Benton Goodnight, 29, of Thayne was killed instantly Tuesday morning at 11:30 in an accident near the J.R, Simplot Smokey Canyon Phosphate mine 10 miles west of Afton. Goodnight was a dozer operator for the mine.
Fred Zerza spokesman for the Simplot Company, told the Independent Tuesday night that the accident had occurred earlier in the day on the main access road approximately one mile from the nine. Apparently goodnight had driven a rubber tire dozer to a location where a tanker truck had become stuck.
