IN LOVING MEMORY OF STEPHEN THOMAS EVANS 1920 - 2007

Longtime Somerset County NJ resident Stephen Thomas Evans, 86, passed away peacefully at his home in North Plainfield, NJ on May 25, 2007 after a brief illness.

Born on Peace Street in Hazleton, Luzerne County, PA on September 13, 1920, he was the oldest son of Henry Joseph "Harry" Evans and Pearl A. Bittenbender Evans of Luzerne County, PA.

Mr. Evans served in the U.S. Army during World War II in Panama, France and Germany attaining the rank of Sergeant. He played saxophone with the First Coast Artillery Band at the Panama Canal Zone.

Following his Military Service, he spent sixty years as a successful business executive. Mr. Evans held numerous prestigious positions for a variety of corporations before retiring as Vice President and Chief Financial Officer for a local NJ company.

Loved by all who knew him, Mr. Evans enjoyed golf, history, Bible study, playing the saxophone and clarinet, and was a fourth generation member of the Freemasons.

Mr. Evans was preceded in death by his parents, and sisters Mrs. Pearl C. Decker Hahn of Nevada, Mrs. Dorothea Knox of New Jersey, and brothers Henry Evans Jr. of California and Paul Fremont Evans of Iowa.

He is survived by his wife, a son and daughter, four grandchildren and two great grandchildren.

A brief prayer service was held on Sunday, May 27, 2007 in Plainfield NJ. Mr. Evans was cremated and ashes are with members of the family.

A final resting place for those ashes will be determined.
