Illustrator. He was the son of Professor John Frost and Sarah Ann Burdett. At fifteen he worked for an engraver, and later as a lithographer in Philadelphia. He studied at the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts under Thomas Eakins, but found his niche as an illustrator of humorous cartoons. In 1876 he joined the staff of Harper Brothers as an illustrator. In addition to illustrating books he also did sketches for Harper's Weekly, Scribner's Magazine, and Life magazines. In 1900 he exhibited at the Paris Exposition. The first book he illustrated was Max Adeler's Out of the Hurly-Burly. He drew the illustrations for Joel Chandler Harris's Uncle Remus and His Friends (1892) and Uncle Remus Returns (1918). He also provided illustrations for the books of fellow Philadelphian Frank Stockton and for the American editions of the works of Charles Dickens and Lewis Carroll. His work was regularly seen in Harper's Weekly. He created prints of America's sports: horse races, golf, and hunting.
