Dr. Maurice Arnold, Jr., 89, of Hawkinsville, Ga., died Monday, October 16, 2006. Funeral services will be 11A.M., Thursday, October 19, 2006, in the Hawkinsville First Methodist Church with Dr. Marcus Tripp officiating. Burial will be in the Pulaski Bleckley Memorial Gardens in Bleckley County.

Dr. Arnold was born in Valdosta, GA., but was raised in Macon, GA. He was a member of the Hawkinsville First Methodist Church and the Board of Stewards. He graduated from Lanier High School in Macon. He was a graduate of Mercer University and the Medical College of Georgia. He was a Captain in the United States Army having served from October 6, 1944, to November 7, 1946 in India. He practiced as a medical doctor in Hawkinsville. After this, he served on the Medical Staff of the Dublin V.A. Hospital and was Chief of Staff for the last several years he was there. He served as a team doctor for many years for the Hawkinsville Red Devil football team. He served on the Hawkinsville and Pulaski County Boards of Education, the Pulaski County Board of Health, and the State Board of Health. He was a past president of the Georgia Academy of Family Physicians. He was a past president of the Hawkinsville Rotary Club. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Lina Jones Arnold. Survivors include two daughters and two sons, Susan L. Arnold of Monticello, Florence Arnold (R. Kenneth)Martin of Norcross, Tom (Debbie) Arnold of Hawkinsville, and Dr. M. Frank (Nancy) Arnold of Macon; thirteen grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; sister, Cathryn (M.F.) Bryant of Macon; several nieces and nephews. Visitation will be from 7:00 until 9:00 P.M. Wednesday evening at Clark Funeral home. In lieu of flowers, contributions to the Hawkinsville First United Methodist Church or charity of your choice.
