Mrs. Lucinda R. Eastman, aged mother of Mrs. A. R. Burt of this city, passed away at the residence of her daughter In this city this morning, death being caused by heart failure. The deceased was 84 years of age at the time of her death. She came to California by way of the Isthmus in 1853. For the past thirty years she has made her home at the residence of her daughter in this city. News Kept from Mrs. Burt Mrs. Burt herself is too ill to be told of the death of her mother, it was announced at the family residence through Miss Sadie Burt, a granddaughter, this afternoon, and for that reason, the funeral services will be private. Death Follows Fire Fright Although Mrs. Eastman had been a resident of this city for many years, she was known to comparatively few people because Illness has kept her inside the home for many years. Her death this morning followed closely upon the excitement attendant upon a back porch fire which started at the Burl home lf"t night, but which was quickly extinguished by visitors from the Columbia restaurant. Came West In 1853 Mrs. Eastman was a remarkable character, and told many wonderful stories of her early life and the hardships attendant upon her coming to California from New England in 1853, as well as of the early days in San Francisco, where she first made her home. She was born in Concord, N. H. in 1832, marrying Cyrus Eastman there before coming to California. In addition to Mrs. Burt and her daughter, of Auburn, the aged woman is survived by two sisters and one brother in the East.
