Our beloved Gailen Manuel Godinez, 67, went to be with our Lord on Thursday, November 9, 2019 in Scottsdale, Arizona. He was born December 18, 1951 in Lamar, Colorado to Manuel and Olivia (Saenz) Godinez. His parents settled in Glendale AZ when he was a child, and they spent many summers following and working the crops in California. He spent some high school years in Merced CA where he met his future wife. He retired from Maricopa County Highway Department after 30 years as a heavy equipment operator. He could be found many nights and weekends at the softball fields, playing, watching and drinking for the sport he loved. He also coached his children and many others in softball and track & field.
Those left to cherish his memory include his loving wife of 48 years, Elizabeth Anne Godinez; Children, Delphina (Craig) Scholl, Danielle Godinez, Dawn Godinez, Dina (Scott) Slown, Dalene Godinez, Galindo (Jessica) Godinez and Ray Godinez; Sisters, Alice Chagolla, Margaret (Lorenzo)Gatica, Mona Bianchi and Rita (Frank) Floersh; Nineteen, grandchildren; Three, great-grandchildren and a host of family and friends. Gailen will reunite in Heaven with his parents Manuel and Olivia, brother Raymond, sisters Caroline, Cecilia Maldonaldo, Joanne Grijalva, and Donna Gutierrez
Visitation for Mr. Godinez will begin at 5:00 p.m. Monday, November 18, 2019 in Holy Cross Catholic Funeral Home, 9925 West Thomas Road., Avondale, Arizona 85392, where a Rosary is scheduled to begin at 7:00PM. Family and friends will get together on Tuesday, November 19, 2019 to celebrate the Funeral Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00a.m., in St Vincent De Paul Catholic Church 3140 North 51st Avenue Phoenix, Arizona. Rev. John Manoj will be Officiating. The Rite of Committal and Interment will follow in Holy Cross Catholic Cemetery 9925 West Thomas Road. Avondale, Arizona 85392 where he will be laid to rest.
The honor of being a pallbearer will go to Damond Scholl, Devin Scholl, Dylan Scholl, Omar Merino, Elijah Merino, Scott Slown, Craig Scholl and Gabriel Godinez; Honorary pallbearers will be Joshua Slown and Javier Godinez.
