Alvin LeRoy Baker, 92, of Pender, Nebraska departed this life on November 8, 2019 at the home of his son Dave Baker. A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, November 23, 2019 at 1:00 p.m. at the Evangelical Covenant Church in Pender with the Rev. Dan Springer officiating. Interment will follow the Memorial Service at Rosehill Cemetery in Pender.

Alvin was born on August 7, 1927 to George and Zelma (Barnes) Baker at the their home on Baker’s Corner. He attended elementary School at Springer School and had many fond memories of those years. He served in the U.S. Army January, 1946-February 1947. On December 29, 1952 Alvin was united in marriage to his wife of 57 years, Carol Nelson, at the family farm northwest of Winnebago,NE. They had three children, David, Steven and Karen. They lived on the farm east of Pender until moving to town in 1967. Alvin loved his work on the farm and as a welder. He worked for Campbell Manufacturing, Wilson Trailer, had his own blacksmith shop for a few years and worked at IBP as a maintenance man for 22 years. Following his retirement from IBP he continued to work as caretaker for Rosehill Cemetery and then delivering the World Herald. He enjoyed delivering the paper, took great pride in his work, and continued doing so until hip problems forced his final retirement.

Alvin decided to move to Mandan, ND in 2013 to live with his son and wife. He enjoyed being with family, working on his computer, riding his bicycle, eating DQ chocolate dipped cones, going for walks and watching Karen and Glenn’s wedding video! Dad was a devoted and faithful husband, father, grandfather, son, brother and friend who is deeply missed.

Alvin is survived by one son, Dave(Joyce)Baker of Mandan, ND; one daughter, Karen (Glenn) Eichelberger of Wisner, NE; one brother-in-law, Rev. David Nelson (Carolyn) of Springfield, MO; one sister-in-law, Norene Baker of Wayne, NE; seven grand children, Jenni (Nathan) Bush, of Cleghorn, IA; Stephany (Jason) Curchy, of Tampa, Fl; Adam Baker of Lenexa, KS; Susie (Daryl) Knopp, of Bismarck, ND; Michelle (CJ) Wientjes, of Mobridge, SD; Tony (Rachel) Eichelberger of Wisner, NE; and Tim (Emma) Eichelberger of Wisner, NE; eighteen great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Carol and a son, Steve.
