At Vizzini, in the province of Catania, Francesca Gargotta, a bright and affectionate little child of 11, recently died suddenly. Typhoid was thought to be tho cause, but after her death it became evident that she had taken poison. A long letter, discovered among the little suicides playthings, announced her resolve to die in order to join her fondly-loved sister Concettina, who had died a few months before, and the child in asking pardon of her parents and relatives made them console themselves with her brothers who remain. Then followed a number of request to friends and playmates of her various belongings, consisting of dresses, linen, books, necklaces, and jewellery, with an affectionate message to each.
