Funeral services for Mrs. Maybelle Kitts age 107 of Livonia Michigan was held at the R.G. & G.R. HARRIS FUNERAL HOME with burial at the Woodlawn Cemetery in Detroit Michigan.

Mrs. Kitts who died January 21, 1993, in a Garden City Hospital, was born in Ionia, Michigan. She lived in the Four Chaplin's Convalescent Centers in Livonia for the past 13 years and was a former resident of Detroit. She lived through president Cleveland to President Clinton. Surviving Mrs. Kitts are: four grandchildren, 16 great grandchildren and several great great grandchildren. Mrs. Kitts is preceded in death by husband James Lee, sons James Lee, Allan Robert, Bill, Fredric and sister Eva Towle.

She was born Mable Klingenberg on June 29, 1885, in Ionia Michigan where she grew up in a peaceful setting surrounded by her loving family. The daughter of a store owner, Mabel graduated from high school and then moved to Detroit to work for the J.L. Hudson Company. Maybel undoubtedly has fascinating memories of life in Detroit shortly after the turn of the century.

One summer at Walloon Lake, Mabel met James Lee Kitts and their friendship developed into a deep love. Mrs. Kitts lived in New York, and they corresponded for a time. Their affection for each other led to a joyous wedding after which the couple settled in New York at Hedge Mead Estate.

They raised four wonderful sons and experienced the warmth and security of a close family.

When Mabel returned to live in Detroit with her husband, they became active in the Baptist Church, contributing to its activities by doing volunteer work. Throughout the years, they shared good and bad times, supporting one another with their profound love. After Mr. Kitts passed away; Maybel's sister Eva Towle offered companionship and the two Klingenberg sisters shared a very special part of their lives together. Clearly, Mabel has many fond memories of the passed 107 years and we all join with all the love and admire her. WE LOVE YOU GRANDMA!

Note: According to her birth record(s) and 1911 marriage record, she was one year older than claimed, being born in 1884, rather than 1885, and thus being 108 rather than 107 when she died.
