New Mexico Football Star Killed in Plane

SAN FRANCISCO, Jan. 3. (AP) — 2nd Lt. John W. Gentry, 25, Junction, Tex., star guard on the University of New Mexico football team in 1939 and 1940, was killed yesterday in the crash of his fast pursuit ship near Alvarado, Calif.

Gentry, who came to the New Mexico institution from Schreiner Institute at Kerrville, Tex., graduated last spring.
