Biabaye was a woman who was taking from her home country (possibly Nigeria) around 1734. She was raped while on a slave ship to Virginia by the ships captain, John Hemings. Biabaye was impregnated by Capt. Hemings, and gave birth to a daughter in 1735 named Elizabeth "Betty" Hemings. Biabaye was bought by Francis Eppes, and was renamed Parthenia.

In 1746, Biabaye and her daughter Betty were given as a wedding present to Martha Eppes and John Wayles, Martha being the daughter of Francis Eppes. Not much is known about Biabaye. It was known that she was owned by Thomas Jefferson at some point based of the will of John Wayles, John Wayles daughter, Martha Wayles Skelton, married Thomas Jefferson as her second husband.

John Wayles father six of Betty's children, and Thomas Jefferson would later have six children with Betty's daughter Sally Hemings, Sally being one of Betty's children fathered by John Wayles.
