Celia Leticia Flores, known as Lety, the matriarch of our family, was born on October 3 rd, 1926 in Guadalajara, Jalisco, Mexico. She was the youngest of 10 children; 4 brothers, 5 sisters, and herself. Her father, Jesus Flores Lopez, was a government official who submitted payroll for the public-school educators in Mexico City. Her mother, Maria de la Salud Silva, was a homemaker, and both were dedicated to their family and were devout Catholics.
As a teenager, she enjoyed traveling with her father to the many places around Mexico City to deliver the payroll to the schools. She was an aspiring poet who wrote and recited her own poetry at various venues, such as Mexico City's Theater of Fine Arts. Eventually, she became a teacher who inspired kindergarten and first-grade students in Mexico City to fall in love with learning. Her fondest memories as a young senorita were created when she was a teacher. She loved her students very much!
She met her husband, Jose Luis Lopez, at El Festival del Virgen de Zapopan in San Andreas, Mexico. She went with her nieces, and he went with his brother. What began as a happenstance encounter, bloomed into a beautiful, life-long, love story. They were inseparable, and their love for one another, similar to that of God, transcended all time and space. Sin embargo, su mayor regalo para sus nietos fue cultivar una fuerte fe en Dios y un gran amor por la familia, que demostró profundamente hasta el día en que entregó su espíritu al Señor. As a teenager, she enjoyed traveling with her father to the many places around Mexico City to deliver the payroll to the schools. She was an aspiring poet who wrote and recited her own poetry at various venues, such as Mexico City's Theater of Fine Arts. Eventually, she became a teacher who inspired kindergarten and first-grade students in Mexico City to fall in love with learning. Her fondest memories as a young senorita were created when she was a teacher. She loved her students very much!
She met her husband, Jose Luis Lopez, at El Festival del Virgen de Zapopan in San Andreas, Mexico. She went with her nieces, and he went with his brother. When he saw her walking around the plaza, he gave her a flower as a symbol to let her know that he thought she was beautiful. He asked and received permission to walk her (and her nieces) home. What began as a happenstance encounter, bloomed into a beautiful, life-long, love story. They were inseparable, and their love for one another, similar to that of God, transcended all time and space. A true love that is both inspirational and unimaginable.
Besides her unparalleled beauty, Jose Luis would tell you that he was most attracted to her devotion to God. She attended church and prayed the rosary every day, which inspired him to draw closer to his faith. Ultimately, their mutual faith sustained, nourished, shaped, and protected their love throughout their entire lives together.
To this day, Jose Luis will tell you that his fondest memory of Lety was the day she said, "I Do". They were engaged at a park in Tijuana, Mexico. But before he could ask her to marry him, he had to ask her mother for her blessing. Since her father had passed, it was customary for the parish priest to accompany him to her mother's house to speak on her father's behalf as he asked for her hand in marriage. This was the first time he had met her mother, who came to love, honor, and respect her son-in-law.
The wedding is described as a wonderful event. There were many attendees such as family, friends, the nuns from the school where she taught, and her beloved students. The reception took place at her mother's house, and their honeymoon never ended. They moved to Los Angeles, California in 1955, where they had a total of 7 children; 5 boys and 2 girls. The first two, one boy and one girl, died shortly after birth.
As those who knew Lety can attest, she was an amazing woman. She was kind, caring, charitable, and totally and completely devoted to her husband and children. Her favorite family traditions were celebrating birthdays, family fun days, and going to church. As a parent, she enjoyed using the skills she acquired as an educator to teach her children the catechism of our Catholic faith and to read and write in Spanish. Additionally, she sacrificed all personal pleasures so she could send her children to a Catholic school in order to give them the best education possible. More importantly, however, she wanted her children to love God as passionately as she did. Her favorite song was Alma Mia sung by Mojica. Her favorite holiday was Christmas. Her favorite sayings were "God is Love" and"May God be first in your lives forever".
In her sunset years, Lety greatly cherished being a grandmother. She had a total of 19 grandchildren and 9 great-grandchildren whom she loved dearly. And despite a limited income, she doted on them often with letters, prayers, clothes, toys, money, and other gifts from her heart. Her greatest gift to her grandchildren, however, was cultivating a strong faith in God and a great love for family, which she demonstrated profoundly up until the day she surrendered her spirit to the Lord. The Lopez Flores family has learned so much from Lety. For example, to honor God above all else, to give from your heart, and to foster your children's, and grandchildren's, talents. But the one thing we can do to keep her legacy alive for the younger generations of our family, is to love each other as she loved us, just as Jesus expressed in John 13:34, "A new commandment I give to you, that you love one another: just as I have loved you, you also are to love one another."

Celia Leticia Flores, conocida como Lety, la matriarca de nuestra familia, nació el 3 de octubre de 1926 en Guadalajara, Jalisco, México. Fue la menor de 10 hijos; 4 hermanos, 5 hermanas y ella. Su padre, Jesús Flores López, era un funcionario del gobierno que presentaba la nómina de los educadores de la escuela pública en la Ciudad de México. Su madre, María de la Salud Silva, era ama de casa, y ambos se dedicaban a su familia y eran devotos católicos.
De adolescente, le gustaba viajar con su padre a los numerosos lugares de la Ciudad de México para entregar la nómina a las escuelas. Era una aspirante a poetisa que escribía y recitaba sus propias poesías en diversos lugares, como el Teatro de Bellas Artes de Ciudad de México. Con el tiempo, se convirtió en una maestra que inspiró a los alumnos de preescolar y primer grado de la Ciudad de México a enamorarse del aprendizaje. Sus recuerdos más entrañables de jovencita fueron creados cuando era profesora. ¡Amaba mucho a sus alumnos!

Hasta el día de hoy, José Luis dirá que su mejor recuerdo de Lety fue el día en que ella dijo "Sí, quiero". Se comprometieron en un parque de Tijuana, México. Pero antes de pedirle que se casara con él, tuvo que pedir la bendición de su madre. Como su padre había fallecido, era costumbre que el párroco le acompañara a casa de su madre para hablar en nombre de su padre cuando pidiera su mano. Era la primera vez que conocía a su madre, que llegó a amar, honrar y respetar a su yerno.
La boda se describe como un acontecimiento maravilloso. Hubo muchos asistentes, como la familia, los amigos, las monjas del colegio donde daba clases y sus queridos alumnos. La recepción tuvo lugar en la casa de su madre, y su luna de miel nunca terminó. En 1955 se trasladaron a Los Ángeles, California, donde tuvieron un total de 7 hijos: 5 niños y 2 niñas. Los dos primeros, un niño y una niña, murieron poco después de nacer.

Además, sacrificó todos los placeres personales para poder enviar a sus hijos a una escuela católica con el fin de darles la mejor educación posible. Pero lo más importante es que quería que sus hijos amaran a Dios con la misma pasión que ella. Su canción favorita era Alma Mía, cantada por Mojica. Su fiesta favorita era la Navidad. Sus frases favoritas eran "Dios es Amor" y "Que Dios sea el primero en sus vidas para siempre".
En sus últimos años, Lety apreciaba mucho ser abuela. Tuvo un total de 19 nietos y 9 bisnietos a los que quería mucho.
