Actor. He is best remembered for playing the title role of Al Jolson in "The Jolson Story" (1946) and "Jolson Sings Again" (1949) opposite William Demarest. He attended the University of Illinois and worked as an usher at Carnegie Hall before finding minor stage roles. He launched his film career with the picture "Mystery Ship" (1941) before signing a long-term contract with Columbia Pictures. His career suffered irreversible damage after admitting he was a former member of the Communist Party in front of the House Un-American Activities Committee (although he was never officially blacklisted). From that point on, Parks was limited to sporadic guest TV roles and a part in the 1962 picture "Freud." He was married to actress Betty Garrett.
