His career suffered irreversible damage after admitting he was a former member of the Communist Party in front of the House Un-American Activities Committee (although he was never officially blacklisted). From that point on, Parks was limited to sporadic guest TV roles and a part in the 1962 picture "Freud." He was married to actress Betty Garrett.
