Van Bemmel Van Bemmel, Catherine "Kay" Frances (nee Boyan),81, of Pembroke Pines, FL and recently Oakland, NJ, died peacefully at home in her daughter, Tina Corcoran's arms on Monday June 25, 2007. She was born in the Grantwood section of Cliffside Park, NJ, September 13, 1925. She was a member of the first graduating class of Bergenfield, N.J, High School in 1943. She lived most of her adult life in Fort Lee, NJ where she and her husband Frank Van Bemmel, who predeceased her in 1995, raised their family. Her two daughters, Bernadette Sobrino of Cooper City, FL, and Tina Corcoran, (together with her husband, Bob,) of Oakland, NJ survive her. Kay was a terrific grandmother to her four grandsons, Bobby and Christopher Corcoran, and Owen and Drew Sobrino. She loved playing card games and checkers with them, and helping them with Homework. Her parents were Regina and William J. Boyan. Besides Kay, they had four other children, Regina Boyan and Eileen Bray of Bergenfield, NJ, William L. Boyan of Lawrenceville, NJ, and Gerard Boyan of Bayhead, NJ, who will sorely miss Kay; sisters-in-law, Tia Boyan and Lee Boyan, always gave Kay so much love. Special thanks are due to her hospice nurse, Carol Delgado for all her extraordinary help. Kay worked for many years at Prentice Hall in Englewood Cliffs as a part time employee so she could be at home with her children. She had previously worked in New York City and did volunteer work at the Foundling Home for orphan children. Her favorite pastime was singing, including both with church choirs and as a soloist of popular songs. In her latter years, she became the first cymbalist with an amateur orchestra. Kay also was an avid poetry writer. Her annual newsletter distributed with her Christmas cards was avidly awaited for the humorous manner in which Kay would describe the events of the most recent year of her life. She belonged to the Irish Club, Century Village International Singers, Book n Review Club, Century Village Orchestra and the New Jersey Club. Funeral Saturday 9:30 AM from the Oakland Memorial Home, 330 Ramapo Valley Road (Rt. 202) Oakland, NJ for a 10 AM Funeral Liturgy at Our Lady of Perpetual Help R.C. Church, 117 Franklin Avenue Oakland, NJ. Burial will be at Madonna Cemetery, Fort Lee, NJ. Relatives and friends may call at the Funeral Home on Saturday from 8:30- 9:30 AM. In lieu of flowers, please send donations to Hackensack Hospice, 30 Prospect Avenue, Hackensack, NJ 07601. The family would love to receive any fond memories of Kay, which may be sent care of the Oakland Memorial Home Additional information, condolences and directions please visit www.Oaklandmemorial.com
