"Mrs. J. L. Grisham, "Mother in Israel" Died at Home, Wed."

Mrs. J. L. Grisham revered as a veritable "Mother in Israel" is character and fulfillment of life's great mission on earth, died at her home in the Blue Ridge country on Wednesday afternoon, November 18, at 1:30 o'clock.

"Grandmother" Grisham had been in failing health for a number of months, but her condition was not alarming. But the engulfing grief occasioned by the death last week of her beloved daughter-in-law, Mrs. W. R. Grisham, undermined her small store of strength and brought the end of life at the age of 81 years.

The services of the last rites were held on Thursday afternoon at the Baptist church on Blue Ridge where she was a charter member, with Rev. John D. West and Rev. Judson Prince conducting the memorial ceremonies. Burial was made in the Murphree cemetery near Evant.

Mississippi was the native state of Mrs. Grisham. She was Margaret Jones, born in 1855. Her marriage to the late J. L. Grisham took place in their home state, and the couple came to Texas in 1862 [sic], when they settled in Fannin County. Later they moved to Coryell, and after a time came on westward to Hamilton County in 1883 and made their home in the Blue Ridge country where they spent the remainder of their days, respected and held in affectionate friendship in the bounds of their acquaintances. J. L. Grisham was called Home on June 12, 1926, leaving his devoted companion to travel the sunset path alone.

Mrs. Grisham was the mother of nine children, eight of whom are living. Her descendants number thirty-eight grandchildren and seven great grandchildren. The sons and daughters are W. R. Grisham, Hamilton; J. L. Grisham, Jr., Quanah; Mrs. R. J. Fergusson, C. E. Grisham, Hamilton; Mrs. S. F. Williams, Wichita Falls; Mrs. Addie Lassetter, Arkans, Arkansas, C. V. Grisham, Hamilton.

"Grandmother" Grisham was a character of true greatness and left an impress on her children and grandchildren that the world's vicissitudes will never erase. Her counsel was sought by the young people of her acquaintance and the world is made better by her having passed this way.

The Grisham family is going through "The valley of the shadow of death," but they are leaning on the "rod and the staff" of God, and they shall find comfort and consolation. Friends in great number have thrown around them a cordon of sympathy, supported by kindly ministrations and words of encouragement that strengthen them for the "treading of the winepress of sorrow."
