Lilly May Burke was the daughter of John Burke and Sarah A. Jones, both born in West Virginia. They are listed as "Tom" Burke and Sarah A. Jones on her death certificate. The family probably lived in Camden or Laclede County between 1880 and 1898 since Lilly married a local boy in 1898 but by 1900 the family had moved on to Fawn Creek, Kansas, and some of the children later ended up on the West Coast.

Lilly married Lewis Sinclair Brown II in 1898 and they had at least 12 children between 1898 and 1918; several did not survive long. Lewis died in 1926, and Lilly later developed stomach cancer and died at her home in Old Town in 1938. They are buried in unmarked graves in Lebanon Cemetery.

(NOTE: her death certificate erroneously has Lilly's birth year as 1883 and her birth place as Camden County, Missouri; however, in the 1880 census she was already two years old and was living in Salt River, Knox County, Missouri. She'd have been 60, not 55, when she died.)
