Jeremy Ray Daugherty, 16, of Coon Branch Mountain near Iaeger, WV, went home to be with the Lord on November 27, 2016.
Jeremy was born in Statesville, NC, October 10, 2000 the wonderful son of Jessica Daugherty of Iaeger, WV, and Benjamin Rasnick of Panther, WV. He was the brother/cousin of Cameron Matney, and Brandon and Madison Pistorius whom he loved very much. He loved hunting with his cousin and riding his motorcycle. He loved helping people and learning new trades. Everyone knew him to be a protective and kind person and he loved his mother with all his heart.
Those left to cherish his memory are his mother, his grandparents, Ricky and Karen Daugherty of Coon Branch Mountain near Iaeger, WV; two aunts, Angela Pistorius and Candi Lester both of Iaeger, WV; cousins, Cameron Matney, Brandon and Madison Pistorius, Kayla Kennedy and Melanie Kennedy all of Iaeger, WV; and two great uncles, Marty and wife Delphine Daugherty of Iaeger, WV, and Jamie and wife Crystal Daugherty of Premier, WV.
Funeral services will be conducted, Saturday, December 3, 2016, at 1 o'clock with Reverend Mike Ashby officiating at the Chapel of Fanning Funeral Home in Iaeger, WV. Burial will follow in the Mullins Cemetery on Coon Branch Mountain near Iaeger, WV. Serving as pallbearers will be family and friends.
Friends may visit with the family from 6 to 9 p.m. Friday evening, December 2, 2016, at the Chapel of Fanning Funeral Home in Iaeger, WV.

McDowell Co. man receives two life sentences in murders of estranged wife, her son

(WVVA) The McDowell County man convicted in the murders of his estranged wife and her 16-year-old son will spend the rest of his life prison.

Circuit Court Judge Rudolph Muresky, II sentenced Michael Glenn Kennedy, 34, to two life terms without mercy plus an additional one to fifteen years for nighttime burglary by breaking and entering. Those sentences are to run consecutively.

Kennedy shot 34-year-old Jessica Daugherty and her son Jeremy on November 27, 2016 at the Daugherty home in Coon Branch. Jeremy died at the scene. Jessica died six months later from the injuries she received.

Following his trial in January, the jury recommended Kennedy not receive mercy during sentencing.

Several family members of the Daughertys spoke during Monday's hearing.

Kennedy is currently serving time for forgery and uttering out of Wyoming County.
