George Columbus Welch was born in Chickasaw Indian Territory Oklahoma in 1898. His parents were Minor Columbus Welch and Georgia Ann Wright. His father Minor was born in Tallapoosa, Alabama in 1861; his mother Georgia Ann Wright is believed to be born in Georgia.

Georgia Ann Wright was the daughter of John Clayton Wright SR and Lucinda Catherine (?Ware/Weir)Jones. John Clayton Wright passed away during the Civil War in 1865; his wife Lucinda also passed in 1865 and it is thought that her daughter Georgia was only a baby, or maybe a year old. Consequently, it is thought that Georgia was raised by an older sister, Rebecca Jane Wright Ward and her husband Jesse Ward. We find Georgia's sister on the 1870 census with Rebecca and Jesse; but Georgia was not listed there. It was originally thought that Georgia was born in TN and that is listed on her death certificate, but this has not been proven. We know from family reports that Margaret Miranda "Randy" Wright b. 1863 was Georgia's older sister.
Georgia married Minor C. Welch in 1881, Tallapoosa, AL. There are "loose leaf" marriage records on US GenWeb Archives Website of Tallapoosa, Alabama to document this marriage. Georgia and Minor had 4 children in Tallapoosa:
Adella, Catherine Idona, Thomas Jefferson, and John H. Next we find the family in Decatur, Texas where they had one child in 1894 named Vernon. By 1896 the family moved to the Chickasaw Nation Territory of Oklahoma where they had Austin (1896), George (1898) and Myrkle (1904). The territory changed a lot, counties were formed after statehood, and became Cotton County, Oklahoma. The family moved down to Amarillo, Texas by 1920.

George Columbus Welch married first Marvie Leon "Dink" Dorman, daughter of Benjamin Franklin Dorman and Julia Amanda Lowe, in Texas. They had two children: James Burnette Welch, and Margie Marie Welch.
George Columbus Welch was in the Army in Amarillo; he married second Essie Ann Martin Richardson in 1943, Amarillo, Texas; the marriage was noted in the Amarillo Globe newspaper. George was scheduled to ship out to Camp White, in Medford, Oregon; it was a camp completed the day before Pearl Harbor occurred. It is noted in the Amarillo Globe that the pair George and Essie were moving to Medford after the marriage. I have never had the opportunity to hear from this family.
George married third to Ada May Welch, b. 1902 OK. They lived for awhile in Pomona, CA and I met her, she was a wonderful person. I attended her funeral; she is buried next to George in the Llano Cemetery. I do not know her maiden name at this time. Shortly after Ada May passed away, we were again called to attend George's funeral. My mother had been making a Texas Lone Star Quilt, and he had wanted it. It went with him to Texas and to heaven. He had been living with us in West Covina, CA at the time, and seemed to have had a stroke or heart attack. His body was shipped back to Amarillo, TX and we went to his funeral. He was a beloved grandfather, bought me my first Red Schwinn bike, fed me chocolate pudding when I fell out of my high chair and banged my head. At this time, this writer is the only known descendant of George Columbus Welch, and would like to hear if there are others; I have held on to those positive memories and have been really blessed by this man.
