Minnie Elizabeth Van Etten, Formerly of Ulster County, N.Y.

Minnie Elizabeth Van Etten, 89, entered her new life peacefully on Monday, June 18, 2007, surrounded by those who love her and accompanied by their prayers.

Minnie was born July 24, 1917 in Ulster County, N.Y. to Daniel and Laura (Smith) Brooks. She was a lifelong resident of Ulster County until illness led to a move to Palm Bay, Fla. in 2005.

In 1943, Minnie married D. Roy Van Etten. They resided in Kerhonkson, N.Y. in the home they built in 1950. For 46 years she worked for Wm. H. Deyo Lumber in Ellenville, N.Y.

She was a member of the Shawangunk Garden Club in Ellenville, the Order of the Eastern Star and the Rochester Republican Club. She was a faithful servant of the Federated Church of Kerhonkson as a member, elder and founder/manager of the church thrift shop.

Minnie is survived by her niece and nephew, Leslie and Jonathon Selage and their son, the light of Minnie's life, JJ. Minnie was predeceased by her husband in 1969 and her brothers, Kenneth and Bartley.

Visiting will be held on Monday, June 25, 2007 from 10 a.m to 12 p.m. at H.B. Humiston Funeral Home, Kerhonkson.

A graveside service will follow at Pine Bush Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Vitas Hospice, 4450 West Eau Gallie Blvd., Suite 280, Melbourne, FL 32934.

She is additionally survived by her loving caregivers Joyce, Shawanna and Ginny. During her final hours the Vitas Hospice Crisis team members Cheryl, Naden and Jane provided compassionate and professional care to Minnie and her family. Minnie was predeceased by her husband in 1969. Her brothers, Kenneth and Bartley predeceased her in 1961 and 1962, respectively. Visitation will be today, June 20th, from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. at the family home at 927 Waialae Circle NE in Palm Bay. A wake service officiated by Deacon Al Michaels will be held at the home this evening at 7 p.m. A funeral service will be held Thursday, June 21st at 10 a.m. at the family home.
