Obituary

Donald Ray Bowman, age 79 years, 4 months and 9 days, was born Feb. 22, 1940 as Roger Raymos Walker, to Burtis and Elizabeth Begley Walker, in Alias, Perry County, Kentucky. He was raised in Stearns, Ky. by Leonard and Macie Stephens Bowman, who formally adopted him in 1960, while Don was serving in the US Navy.
Funeral services will be held Thursday, July 18, 2019 at 1:00 PM in the chapel at the Hickman-Strunk Funeral Home. A public visitation will be Thursday morning starting at 11:00 AM and will end at the time of service. Burial will follow the conclusion of services and will be in the Floyd Cemetery in Laurel County, Kentucky. The Kentucky Corps of Longriflemen Honor Guard will provide honors at the cemetery.
Don was a very intelligent man with varied interests. Among them are his love of black powder fire arms, especially Kentucky Long Rifles, and he built many collector grade long rifles, that are prized by their owners and other collectors. Don was a member of the National Muzzle Loading Rifle Association, and held a national record for pistol marksmanship for many years. He was also a member of the Kentucky Corps of Long Riflemen, a bona fide militia unit, authorized by the Governor of Kentucky. He was also a member of the Stearns First Baptist Church.
Don had worked for the Stearns Coal & Lumber Company, as a contractor for Outdoor Venture, but primarily was self employed as an auto body technician.
Survivors include his wife Mary Alice (Owens) Bowman, whom he married March 7, 1959, Two sons, Charles “Chuck” Bowman, and his wife Amy, of Concord, NC, and Vincent “Vince” Bowman, and his wife Tamara, of Nancy, Ky. 7, grandchildren, Curtis Bowman, Kyle Bowman, Allison Bowman, Rebecca Bowman, Bryan Swindell, Brad Swindell and Braden Bowman. Great-grand children, Hayley Swindell, Grace Swindell, Zachary Swindell,
Landen Bowman and Lydia Bowman. A brother, Roy Franklin Walker, of Versailles, In. and a sister Elizabeth Albin, Colorado Spgs, Co
He was preceded in death by both sets of parents, brothers, Edgar Houston Walker, Chester B. Walker, John Douglas Walker, George W. Walker,(aka Timothy Hagemann), sister Elvira Walker Kilgore, half sisters, Sue Carolyn Adkins Myers and Sylvia Adkins Asher.
