Lou was the pretty one of us three cousins growing up in Long Bottom, McDowell County, West Virginia back in the 1940s. Our grandma Trinnie Ward Steel lived in a house across from the one room school. Her daughters, Mary, Frankie, and Margie all lived just down the road from her. Her daughter Noonie lived next door. Her son Elzie Jennings owned an ice cream store next to the high school in Iaeger a few miles down the road. Her daughter Goldie lived just down the road in the opposite direction. Lou was Margie's daughter, Sue was Mary's daughter. I was Goldie's daughter. We were all the same age. We played together when there would be big family get togethers at Aunt Margie's house. She (Aunt Margie) was a great cook just like her mother Trinnie.

Lou's parents, Margie & Garnet Newberry owned a gas station grocery store across the road from their house.
