After a lengthy employment with the Air Force and the Air Force Reserves in Vienna, OH, Norma transferred to the Internal Revenue Service in 1966 where she was secretary to the District Director. Norma retired in 1991, completing 25 years of service with the IRS.
Norma was an avid golfer and bowler and enjoyed traveling. She also enjoyed investing in the stock market and, upon retirement, became actively involved in local stock market groups. She learned quickly and was quite pleased with her successes in buying and selling of stocks. Norma’s greatest passion was music. She was a member of AARP Notables and the Saxon Concordia Chorus, traveling with the Chorus to Germany and Austria in 1983 on a three-week musical tour.
Norma was a long-time member of Grace Lutheran Church in Austintown where she directed the church choir and was a member of the church council. In her time at Grace, Norma achieved the distinct honor of being the first female Congregational President in the 120-year history of Grace Lutheran Church—an accomplishment for which she was most proud. Additionally, Norma was active with Shepherd of the Valley Lutheran Home and Retirement Center, having once served as President of the Auxiliary and as Recording Secretary on the Board of Directors.
Surviving Norma is her daughter Karen Elizabeth “Libby” Rodenbaugh of Naples, FL.
Norma requested a private burial in Girard City Cemetery. There will be a memorial service held in her honor at Grace Lutheran Church on October 20, 2019 and a celebratory reception on November 9, 2019 in the clubroom at Villagio of Estero, where Norma maintained a residence since moving to Florida in 2005.
