Funeral services were held at the Blue Ridge Baptist Church Monday afternoon at 5 o'clock for Mrs. G. W. Chumney, 86, of Hico, who died Sunday following an illness of nearly two years. Rev. Fred Grubbs was the officiating minister.
Mrs. Chumney was born in Missouri, but came with her parents to Texas at an early age. She had been a resident of Hamilton County for the past 55 years.
Surviving are one son, four daughters, and a large number of grandchildren, including seven great-great-grandchildren. She had seven grandsons in the service of their country. Four of them are already overseas. The surviving son is Will Chumney of Evant; the daughters are Mrs. J. L. Grisham of Quanah, Mrs. M. W. Neal of Hamilton; Mrs. Grady Coston, of Hico; and Mrs. Omer Cook of Stephenville.

Sarah Virginia "Sallie" (Fergusson) Chumney was born 16 January, Hannibal, Marion County, MO, to Robert Jefferson and Virginia V. (Reamy) Fergusson. She married George Washington Chumney on 4 December, 1872, LaGrange, Fayette County, TX. She died 11 June, 1944.
She was the mother of: William Daniel "Will" Chumney, Arthur Wayne Chumney, Minnie Lee Chumney, May Iantha (Chumney) Grisham, Pearl Virginia (Chumney) Neal, Byrdie Maggie (Chumney) Coston, and Ima Fay (Chumney) Cook
