WYOMA MARINE DIES IN COMBAT IN VIETNAM
**********************************************
A 21 year old Wyoma Marine has been killed in action in Vietnam.

L/Cpl. Robert J. Nelson died in Thua Thien in the northern province near Hue on Feb. 13 as the result of shrapnel wounds of the head and body, according to a Department of Navy telegram.

His Parents are Herbert A. and Mary (Henry) Nelson, 37 Parkland Ave.

The war hero, who left for Vietnam last Easter Sunday, had a month and a day left on his tour of duty in that country. Two weeks ago his family received a letter saying he was about to be promoted.

LIFE LONG RESIDENT

A lifelong resident, he attended Sisson Elementary, Pickering Junior High and was a 1964 graduate of English High.

Cpl. Nelson was employed at the General Electric Allerton Street branch before entering Boston State College in 1965, where he was a Dean's list student.

He joined the Marine Corps with his friend Stanley Hoy on the "Buddy System" on Sept. 23 1966. After completing basic training at Parris Island S.C. and Camp Lejeune, N.C., he was assigned to Camp Pendleton, CA.

His father works in the shipping department of the Nissen Baking Corp., and his mother is an employee of the Welfare Department.

He also leaves two brothers, William Nelson, 20, a student at Lowell Tech, and Thomas Nelson, 25, former English hockey player, now attending Salem State College; his aunt and godmother, Mrs. Cecelia Sheehan of Marblehead; five aunts and five uncles, Mr. Mrs. Joseph Henry and Mr. Mrs. Clarence Nelson, all of Salem; Mr. and Mrs. Wesley Cunningham and Miss Astrid Nelson, all of Lynn; Mr. and Mrs. Leo Tower of Beverly and Walter Henry of Quincy.

Funeral arrangements will be made later through the William E. McGinn Funeral Home.
