Bobby Evans, 46, of Chalk Bluff, a devoted husband, father and pawpaw passed away Monday June 18, 2007, in Bellmead. Services will be 11 a.m. Friday June 22, at Bellmead Funeral Home Chapel with Leslie Jones officiating. Burial will be at Waco Memorial Park. Visitation will be from 6 to 9 p.m. Thursday, June 21, at the funeral home.

Bobby was born on in Waco, Texas, to Billy E. and Ruby Nell (Allcorn) Evans. He graduated from LaVega High School in 1980 and joined the U.S. Army in October, 1982, serving for three years. He married Deborah Diane Buchanan on December 21, 1982, at Northside Church of Christ in Waco. He was the Animal Control Officer for the City of Bellmead for the past seven years, a member of Bellmead Volunteer Fire Department for nine years, was employed at Fuzzy Friends for the last several years, was a member of the State Animal Association, the National Animal Association, the McLennan County React Group, and was a very active member of Northside Church of Christ.

Bobby would do anything for anyone and was always willing to lend a hand. He loved animals, traveling, and spending time with his family. He will be greatly missed by all who knew him.

Bobby is survived by his wife of 24 years, Deborah Diane Evans, of Chalk Bluff; daughter, Crystal Gayle Evans, of Waco; grandson, Xavier Juandiego, of Waco; parents, Billy and Ruby Nell Evans, of Waco; sister, Julie Randolph, of Waco; brothers, Billy Gene Evans and wife, Dana, of Nebraska, and Jim Evans, of North Carolina; and several nieces and nephews.

Bobby Dean Evans, 46, Bellmead animal-control officer, was found in the doorway of the city's animal shelter with multiple gunshot wounds in his back, about 9:50 a.m. Monday, Jun 18. The Texas Rangers and the Texas Department of Public Safety crime labs in Waco and Austin are assisting Bellmead police in the investigation.

He leaves behind a wife, daughter and a grandson.

The uncertainty of why a man — who, by all accounts, was a caring family man with no enemies — was gunned down while doing his job, has other area animal control officials concerned.

Police have no suspects, weapon or witnesses.
