Mary was daughter of David A. and Parthenia J. (Gilliland) White. Great Grandmother Kidd met Jack Kidd in Hunt Co. Texas where they married in 1886. They lived in Texas until Mary brought the children to Oklahoma after Jack died of appendicitis. Jack is buried in either Clinton Cemetery or Liberty Cemetery in Hunt Co.

It is said she was part Cherokee Indian and lived in a tent she carried everywhere she traveled. It is also said she was a Christian and went to many camp meetings.

At OK Statehood she brought the children to Oklahoma near Gotebo. She lived near her kids here in OK. Her children were Horace Luman-OK, Jesse Harlon-OK, Katie D. Kennedy-OK, James B.-MO, and William Columbus Kidd-CA.

The reason it says Mary Loretta (Reeves) Kidd on her stone is because family believed her maiden name to have been Reeves, for two reasons, Her Step-father was a Reeves. Luman Kidd's birth Mother was also a Reeves. These two Reeves were not from the same line but left our families to believe that was her maiden name. One census even said Mary Loretta's name was Reeves, but it turns out in other records that her maiden name was in fact White, of which we learned in later years.
The cost to change the grave stone is just to costly. We are good with leaving it as is and telling the story so all may know. :) C
