Larry Kent Burwell, 78, of Frankton passed away May 25, 2019, at Westminister Village in Muncie after suffering a stroke in January.
Larry was born February 20, 1941 , in Elwood to Jack and Ruth (Spahr) Burwell. He graduated from Wendell L. Wilkie High School in 1959. He married Doris A. Hartley, his high school sweetheart in 1961.
Larry began working for the Elwood Call-Leader as a photographer while still in high school. He then began a millwright apprenticeship for Guide Lamp in 1963, and he retired in 1999 after 33 years.
Larry enjoyed many hobbies over the years, including building muzzle loaders, restoring five Model A Ford cars and was interested in railroad pocket watches. He formed many friendships over the years through his special interests. He enjoyed spending time with family and friends as well as traveling. He was an active member of the Frankton Christian Church, NMA and NAWCC.
Larry is survived by his wife of 57 years, Doris; daughters, Jill (fiance Chris Poland) Burwell; Holly (Toby) Bell and Joy (Mike) Jackson; grandchildren Logan Kiplinger, Lydia (Logan) Hiser, Noah Ayers, Emily Ayers, Natalie Jackson, Owen Jackson and Taylor Kiplinger; great-grandsons, Brayden Kiplinger and Lukas Hiser; brother and sister-in-law Jim and Martha Burwell of Cumming, Georgia; and sister-in-law and brother-in-law Mary Beth and John Kilander of Wabash.
He was preceded in death by his parents Jack and Ruth Burwell; father-in-law and mother-in-law Vernon and Georgia Hartley; and nephew Craig Dowling.
Services will be at 2 p.m., Thursday, May 30, at Harper Dunnichay Funeral Home in Frankton, with Roger Brooks officiating. Visitation will be 4 to 8 p.m., Wednesday, May 29.
