Age 75, Lawton, Services will be 10:00 AM Friday in the Becker Funeral Home Memorial Chapel with Rev. Herschel R. Lindsey, retired Baptist minister, officiating.
Mr. Riggs died Monday at his residence.
Burial will be in the Highland Cemetery.
He was born on July 7, 1929 in Lawton to Walter James and Mary Ellen (Frazier) Riggs. He married Opal Massey. He then married Frances Gertrude Carroll. Mr. Riggs worked at the United States Postal service for more than 36 years, before retiring in 1987. He served as the assistant director of the Lawton Recreation Commission. He coached for the Lawton Recreation Commission, the little league baseball, football, and basketball teams for Wilson Elementary and Pecan Grove Elementary. He led his teams to win many championships, trophies and awards. Mr. Riggs also coached prep baseball. He was a member of First Baptist Church in Lawton and also a life member of the Masonic Lodge # 183.
Survivors include a son and daughter-in-law, Steve Riggs and Anne of Oklahoma City; two daughters and sons-in-law, Karen Singley and Roger of Chesapeake City, Maryland; and Laura Boone and Herman of Frisco, Texas; eight grandchildren, Cari Sofianidis and her husband, John, of Upper Darby, Pennsylvania; Stephanie Riggs of Dallas, Texas; James Crowder of Havertown, Pennsylvania; Chevas Stancliff and her husband, Mike, of Oklahoma City; Stacey Boggs and her husband, Westley, of Lexington, Oklahoma; PO2 S. Phillip Riggs of Elizabeth City, North Carolina; Clayton Boone of Arlington, Texas and Casey Boone of Frisco, Texas; 5 great grandchildren; his former wife, Opal Mayo of Comanche; and a brother and sister-in-law, Ronald L. Thurman and Opal of Lawton.
His sister, Margaret West, a brother, Dick Riggs, and his second wife, Frances Gertrude Riggs, preceded him in death.
