We grew up most of our lives in FL, my mother loved the smell of the orange blossoms and the feel of sand under her feet. She had a green thumb and could make just about anything grow. She always had plants hanging around the outside of the house, preferring to keep her garden outside.
My mother was a great seamstress and made a lot of our (the girls) clothes as we were growing up. Even though we were not twins or triplets it was not unusual for her to make 3 outfits alike for the 3 oldest daughters.
And one time I can remember her making a pioneer dress and hat like the Little House on the Prairie dress for a child that my father heard about on his CB radio. This child was sick and the parents wanted to give her this outfit before she passed away from her illness. My mother sewed for days to make this outfit in order to give it to this little girl in time.
And though my mother wasn't a gourmet cook she always had one dish that could cheer up a whole bunch of kids. She would make chocolate gravy with home made biscuits for us. This always brought a smile to our faces.
