From a very young age, he had a love for electronics and ham radios. By the age of 15, he had extensive equipement for his ham radio & was, like his father, learning the trade of electronics. His mother died when he was just 15 from heart disease and his father was left to raise 5 boys alone. When he was about 17 or 18 years old, he signed up for the U.S. service. He joined the U.S. Navy. He worked in Louisiana, Mississippi & lastly in Nevada for about 10 years before he was forced to retire because of a severe back injury from an accident which left him in severe pain. He was crushed to have to leave the service as he loved it very much. In Nevada, at one point he worked on trains tracking with radar. His love for electronics didn't stop there as when his father died, about the time he had to retire in 1970 he moved to Massachusetts & took a job on as a teacher for electronics in Upper Cape Cod Bourne Regional High School. His other hobbies included: Sailing- He owned a 30' foot Pearson & a 18' HobyCat, Ham Radio (K1AYH), Scuba Diving- one of his important dives was exploring the Famous, Historical John Dwight- "Queen of The Rum Runners" which had a murder mystery. He loved traveling, and camping as was a bit of an adventurer. He was a member of St. Joseph's Parish, Fairhaven, Massachusetts, New Bedford Scuba Diving Club, Fairhaven Coastguard, etc..
