LaVerne Reafsnyder, 96, resident of Garden Grove for over 70 years, passed away on Tuesday, April 9, 2019. Born on February 9, 1923 in Kansas, LaVerne grew up in Garden Grove, attending Garden Grove High School and served his country in WWII beginning in 1941. He married the love of his life, Elva "Jane" Reafsnyder on November 25, 1945. They spent many years traveling together, especially by motorhome throughout the United States.

He was a longtime insurance man for State Farm, serving countless customers over the decades, many of whom still recall him after not seeing him for many years. He was a member of various organizations, including the Garden Grove Lions Club and the Garden Grove Elks Lodge #1952— when, at his death, he was the last charter member out of the original 250 members. He remained a fixture at the lodge up until his passing, usually being found at the Wednesday Family Night dinners and most Thursdays for lunch with family and friends.

He was preceded by his wife, Jane, in 2012, after nearly 66 years of marriage and his brother Ray, who passed in 2013. He was survived by his three daughters, seven grandchildren and several great-grandchildren, along with many friends.

Viewing and services were held Tuesday, April 16, 2019, beginning at 10am, at Garden Grove United Methodist Church. Graveside services were held the same day, at 1pm, at Westminster Memorial Park. LaVerne will be laid to rest with full military honors by the United States Army.

Services by the Elks Lodge will be held on Friday April, 26, 2019, at 11am. In LaVerne's honor, the Elks Lodge will be flying the flag at half-staff for ten days beginning April 16th.
