Son of Ma’am Jones, John was there when Billy the Kid stumbled into he Jones homestead, half dead. During the short time Billy stayed with the family, he and John became good friends—a friendship that lasted even though they participated in opposite sides of the Lincoln County War. John was brutally murdered by Bob Olinger (shot in the back twice and in the back of the head). It’s believed this is the biggest reason the Kid hated Olinger and was more than happy to kill him during his escape from the Lincoln courthouse.
