Born to Louis Simon, Sr., and Mary Lewis Simon as the sixth of fifteen children in Iowa, Louisiana, the family moved to Texas when she was young and attended the Prairie View Training School in Prairie View, Texas, where she graduated and furthered her education at Prairie View A&M University and married Maurice Armstrong, Jr., on June 5, 1969. The couple would be blessed with the birth of their firstborn son, Roberto Armstrong on August 16, 1970 and later the birth of their daughter, Teresa Marie Armstrong on October 19, 1973; later graduated from Prairie View A&M University in the class of 1972 with Bachelor of Science in Education. The young family later moved to Lansing, Michigan in 1976, where Lorena was employed by the Lansing School District, completing her Master's degree in Arts from Michigan State University in the class of 1985; while at the Lansing School District, she worked as a special education teacher and eventually becoming a high school counselor. She retired from Lansing School District after 34 years in June 2010. Preceded in death by both parents, Louis, Sr., and Mary Simon; two twin sisters; three brothers: Irvin Simon, Wilford Simon and Rayford Simon. Survived by her former husband, Maurice Armstrong, Jr.,; son, Roberto Armstrong; daughter, Teresa English (Ernest); grandchildren: Alyssa English-Milner and Catrice English; great grandchildren: Maxwell Milner, Ava Milner, and Dorian Milner; six sisters: Orelia Alexander of Waller, Texas; Loretha Myers (Felton, Sr.,) of Houston, Texas; Mary D. Simon of Houston, Texas; Agnes Simon of Webster, Texas; Erma Sadberry of Prairie View, Texas and Diana Loftis of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma; three brothers: Louis Simon, Jr., (Reba), Isaac Simon and James Simon, all of Houston, Texas including host of nieces, nephews, relatives and family friends. Memorial service will be held on Saturday, April 20, 2019 at 2:00pm at the Jehovah's Witnesses Southwest Congregations, 3611 W Jolly Road, Lansing, Michigan 48911. Arrangements entrusted to Riley Funeral Home, 426 W Saint Joseph Street, Lansing, Michigan 48933.
