Marian was born to Louis and Eulalee (Groscost) Platt of Montrose, SD. Less than a year after graduating high school she married Fred Abel of Kasota, MN in San Diego, CA, near Fred's base, Camp Pendleton. While Fred completed his tour of duty in the South Pacific, Marian contributed to the war effort stateside, assembling planes at Douglas Aircraft. After the war they returned to the midwest, residing in Rochester, MN, where Marian worked at the Mayo Clinic before starting a family in 1948. They took up residence in Rice Lake in 1957 after residing briefly in cities throughout the Midwest. While raising six children, she pursued a variety of interests, including oil painting, poetry and ceramics. Her interest in genealogy resulted in the compilation of a detailed family history, which she copied, bound and distributed to loved ones.
Marian Abel is survived by a son, Gordon Abel of New Hope, MN; 4 daughters and sons-in-law, Sharon & Dick Halvorsen of Minneapolis, MN, Constance Abel & Larry Brinlee of Fremont, CA, Sandra Abel of Rice Lake, WI and Lori & Irwin Norvitch of Coraopolis, PA; a daughter-in-law, Lori Christel Abel of Rice Lake, WI; 2 grandsons, Richard Halvorsen and Brian Abel; She was preceded in death by her husband Fred Abel on February 23, 2006; and a son, Bradley Abel on August 31, 1997.
A graveside service was held at 1:00 PM Friday, May 18, 2007 at St. Joseph Cemetery in Rice Lake, WI, with Rev. Steve Kaste officiating. Arrangements have been entrusted to the care of Appleyard's Home for Funerals in Rice Lake, WI. [Published 23 May 2007 in The Chronotype, Rice Lake, WI.]
