Mrs. Catherine Atkinson Rawls, 79 of Green Hills Terrace Apartments, mother of former Metro Vice Mayor Jerry Atkinson, died yesterday at her home after a short illness.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. tomorrow at Belmont United Methodist Church. Dr. Farris F. Moore, and the Rev. Earl C. Parker, associate Pastor of Belmont, will officiate.
Burial will be in Woodlawn Memorial Park. The body is at Martin's and Bracey-Welsh Funeral Home.
Daughter of the late James and Mary Evelyn Cowper Kerr, of White Bluff, Tenn. Mrs. Rawls moved to Nashville at an early age and attended public schools here.
In 1918, she married Fitzgerald Atkinson, a prominent insurance man. He died in 1939. She later married the Rev. R. B. Rawls. He died in 1963.
She was a member of Belmont United Methodist Church for 49 years. She was past president of the Mother's Class, and a member of the United Methodist Women. She also was a member of the Ladies Hermitage Association and the Friends of Cheekwood. In addition to Jerry Atkinson, survivors include another son, James P. Atkinson, Dallas; two sisters, Mrs. Winnette Treppard, Orinda, Calif., and Mrs. F. J. Willey, Monroe, La., and one granddaughter.
